Sulphur dye are mainly used for dyeing textile cellulosic materials or blends of cellulosic fibres with synthetic fibres. They are also used for paper pulp and certain types of leather. Sulphur dyes are produced in powder and liquid form.
Sulphur dyes are used for laminate and packaging papers. Sulphur black is extensively used for dyeing paper pulp where black shades are required. They can be used with ease due to cellulosic nature of the paper pulp. The dye is synthesized in such a manner that they have meniscal free sulphide content which eliminates Hydrogen Sulphide generation during dye fixing (acidification).
Solubilised sulphur dyes are water soluble and penetrates the leather much more than acid dyes. Due to the penetration properties solubilised sulphur black are used extensively in automotive leather.
Sulphur dyes traditionally have long been used for in exhaust dyeing applications of woven, knitted fabrics (cotton and its blend) in Jigger, Winch, Package dyeing etc.
In denim sulphur black dyes are used in slasher or rope dyeing machines for full black denim or SBIT (Sulphur Bottom Indigo Topping)/ IBST (Indigo Bottom Sulphur Topping) applications. Other sulphur colours are used either for solid shades or overdyeing.
